A Small Portion

A_Small_Portion.jpg

1996

With Bob Marlin dropping the sticks and picking up the mic, Dangerous Dave Blackfish sitting behind the drums and Hal Abbot newly installed on heavy sea bass an altogether jazzier and more frenetic “Mr Beerhead” lurches onto the stage. Next Cod Mk 2 remove the R from the front end of Revolver, turn 6 into 9 and channel their inner mid period Beatles before taking a slightly disturbing trip to the dark side of the tune to visit old frenemy “Sister Poison”. Running to three tracks only, “ A Small Portion” is not entirely filling but its intriguing flavours do leave the listener wondering what might be on a future menu.

Mr Beerhead (Again)

Mr Beerhead sorts the problems of the world. Amazing when you think he's on pint number 12 !

View lyrics

Mr Beerhead gets his Giro
Signs his name in shaking biro
It's eleven pubs are open
Time to cash his new beer token
He's the first in all is quiet
So resumes his all-beer diet
3 hours later beer is talking
You're his best mate, Christ it's boring

Mr Beerhead sorts the problems of the world
Amazing when you think he's on pint number 12

There is no problem, Mr Beerhead cannot solve
With just another beer to steady his resolve
Oh no Mr Beerhead he has to get them in before he is dead

Mr Beerhead in the toilet
He's got damp patch, best ignore it
He leans over, again we meet
Shakes my hand and wets my feet
Mr Beerhead gets unstable
He falls headfirst on the table
Pints are flying
Skinheads eyeing
Get him out if you are able

The landlord thinks that Mr Beerhead's had enough
But Mr Beerhead cannot understand the fuss
As far as he's concerned, he's sober as a judge
Even Ronnie Kray can't make the bastard budge
Wo Oh Mr Beerhead

Mr Beerhead, back from the pub
He's got Chinese, he's got lager
Way, he walks, like Douglas Bader

Mr Beerhead thinks he needs another drink
To make some room he throws up in the kitchen sink
Turns your washing up a nasty shade of pink
Wo oh it's Mr Beerhead
Got to get them in before he is dead

Do your obsessions seem to drag you down? Welcome to Dante’s nightmare

View lyrics

Do you think this is complicated
Well, what can I say
Does it really make you angry
Well hazard a guess

Does it always have to be this way
Running but going nowhere
Do you believe tomorrow never knows
It knows more than you think

Do you think this is overrated
Well, what can I say?
Does it make you feel weak and helpless
Well hazard a guess

Do you think that she’s a dirty girl
Waiting for you to want her?
Do you think that she could drive your car?
She might drive you to drink

Do you believe in a chaos theory?
Well, what can I say
Do you think you can walk on water?
Well hazard a guess

Do your obsessions seem to drag you down?
Welcome to Dante’s nightmare
Dr Robert cannot help you now
He’s so gratefully dead

Sister Poison

Sister Poison,  I remember how it was on our first date.  You made me feel just like the empire, ‘til I got into this state

View lyrics

Sister Poison, how're you doing?
who're you screwing up today?
Got some new friends from the gutter
But we can't afford to pay
Sister Poison, any ideas?
Sister Poison, any ideas?

Sister Poison,
I remember how it was on our first date
You made me feel just like the empire
‘til I got into this state
Sister Poison, I remember,
Sister Poison, I remember

Sister Poison, sweet oblivion,
Help me chase the night away
The burning embers of the memory
To obliterate your face

Sister Poison, sweet oblivion
Sister Poison, sweet oblivion (Key change)
Sister Poison, sweet oblivion
Sister Poison, sweet oblivion

Sister Poison, so you found me, I can feel as you surround me
Knew I wouldn't get too far
Poison Sister, how I missed you, so I kissed you
Unprotected as we are

Sister Poison, how's your boy been,
See he's getting there today,
A young apprentice to the mistress
Do you think he will escape?
Sister Poison, we don't think so
Sister Poison, we don't think so

Sister Poison, sweet oblivion,
You're the stealer of the days
You make the minutes seem like hours
But the years go by like days

Sister Poison, sweet oblivion
Sister Poison, sweet oblivion
Sister Poison, sweet oblivion
Sister Poison, sweet oblivion
Sister Poison, sweet oblivion
Sister Poison, sweet oblivion
Sister Poison, sweet oblivion
